Privacy
This page explains what 4theorygames.com collects when you visit, why, and for how long. The short version: no cookies, no advertising trackers, and nothing that can be traced back to you as a person.
Who is responsible
The data controller for this site is Stefano Gandiglio, trading as 4Theory Games, Via Castellamonte 32, 10010 Banchette (TO), Italy. You can reach us at info@4theorygames.com for anything on this page.
Visitor statistics
We count visits ourselves, on our own server, so we know roughly how many people come by and which links get used. Each page load sends the page path, the site you came from (only the domain, if your browser passes one along), your screen width class (phone, tablet or desktop) and your browser's language setting. Clicks on outbound links and the main buttons are counted by name.
To count unique visitors without recognising anyone, the server combines your IP address and browser identifier with a secret key that changes every day, turns that into a one-way hash, and stores the hash. The IP address and browser identifier themselves are not stored. The key rotates daily, so the same visitor on two different days produces two unrelated hashes and we cannot link them. No cookie or other identifier is placed on your device.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is recorded at all.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site works and what people look at (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Statistics rows are deleted after 13 months.
Server logs
Like every web server, ours writes a standard access log: IP address, time, the URL requested, the response code and the browser identifier. We use it to spot faults and abuse. Log files are rotated and deleted after 14 days.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address and use it for that newsletter and nothing else. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every mail or by writing to us, and we delete the address when you do. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
When you write to us, we keep the mail for as long as we need it to answer and follow up, then delete it.
Hosting
The site runs on a server rented from OVHcloud (OVH SAS, Roubaix, France). OVHcloud processes data on our behalf under its own data processing terms.
Other sites
Links to itch.io, Steam and other services take you off this site. Those services have their own privacy rules, and what happens there is up to them.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable format. Because the statistics cannot be tied to a person, in practice these rights apply to the newsletter list and to mail you have sent us. Write to info@4theorygames.com and we will answer within a month.
You can also complain to your national data protection authority. For us that is the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Changes
If any of this changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
